A few years ago, I made the decision to relocate to Devon, leaving behind not only my home but also a highly successful and well-established dog training business.

In Cumbria, the Grayling name had become widely recognised and respected, associated with bespoke dog training, behavioural expertise, and a results-driven, ethical approach. I was known as Ingrid Grayling — the trusted specialist for professional dog training.

Since moving to Devon, I have remained committed to preserving and expanding this legacy. My goal has been to identify and mentor the right individual to continue delivering Training the Grayling Way — a proven methodology focused on balanced training, pack leadership, and a deep understanding of canine behaviour. This approach also forms the foundation of my forthcoming book, Training the Grayling Way, due to be published later this year.

I am pleased to announce that I have had a fantastic person in training who has just finished the course…

Angela Atkinson, based near the Lake District, recently completed my intensive three-day Train the Trainer programme here in Devon. This professional course is designed to equip trainers with both the practical skills and strategic knowledge required to build a successful and reputable dog training business.

Throughout the programme, we covered a comprehensive range of topics, including dog behaviour and behavioural issues, pack leadership techniques, canine nutrition, working dogs, responsible breeding, as well as training approaches for puppies and senior dogs. In addition, we focused on key business essentials such as PR, marketing strategy, and brand development within the competitive dog training industry.

Angela demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, and a genuine passion for dogs. Her ability to absorb and apply knowledge quickly, combined with her natural rapport with dogs, made her an outstanding candidate. She was not only a pleasure to train but also fully aligned with the values and standards that define the Grayling approach.

Following the programme, Angela returned to Cumbria with the expertise, confidence, and determination to establish her own professional dog training services. She will be launching her business this summer, bringing expert dog training, behavioural support, and bespoke solutions for dog owners back to the region.

This marks an exciting development — not only for Angela’s career, but for the continuation of a trusted and respected name in UK dog training.
